Microchipping hounds in the UK

From 6 April 2016 all dogs in England, Scotland and Wales are legally required to be microchipped and details registered with one of the six authorised databases:

Under the new law all dogs have to be microchipped and registered with a Government-compliant database by the age of 8 weeks. It is owner's responsibility to keep your hound's details up to date on the database. These include name and address of the keeper. You must also inform the database that holds your pet's details in the even of your pet's death.

Anyone whose dog is not microchipped after April 6, 2016 will have 21 days to get their hound microchipped. Failing to comply with the new relation may result in a £500 fine.

The microchipping regulations do not affect the requirement for your dog to wear a collar and ID tag with owner's name and address while in a public place.
